Journal Entry #2 - Starting with the Basics

This news article involves Julia-Louis Dreyfus, who is a famous comedy veteran who was also in Veep. In this article, the main topic discussed is Julia announces that she has cancer. Julia announced this mournful news, Thursday, September 28, 2017. Dreyfus has been diagnosed with cancer in her breast. The cause of the cancer was not revealed in this news report, which made it difficult for me to answer why Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer and also how she has been diagnosed. I believe that the lead is very effective. I think this because in a short variety of words a lot of information is brought to the surface. "Veep star Julia-Louis Dreyfus announces she has breast cancer." With a lead like so fans who admire Julia would be intrigued and would more than likely want to read more. One quote from the following article is, "The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality." Julia, herself is the source. She tweeted this via social media. Yes, the most important/interesting information is told first, which is that Dreyfus had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I do not believe the story has a good ending. I found it difficult to find out information on this topic due to the short article. If it had of been slightly longer and ended with all the facts on the topic included, I would have thought it had a successful ending. Here is a link to the news article.

This news article involves Rohingya children and women. In this article, the main topic discussed is about Rohingya children and women drowning while trying to flee Myanmar's Rakhine state. This event took place on September 27, 2017. These people were trying to depart because of the unfair violence which occurs in this state and sadly ended up drowning because the boat in which they were on suddenly collided with something near shore, which caused it to upset. This happened just off the coast of Bangladesh. I believe that the lead is extremely effective. It has many great qualities to offer. For example, when reading the lead, a sense of fear sets in which then gets the reader hooked and wanting to continue to read the article more thoroughly. One quote is, "It is the largest mass refugee movement in the region in decades. The source stated is U.N deputy spokesperson Faran Haq. Yes, the most important information is told first, is about all those who drowned while trying to flee. I believe the story has an excellent ending. While reading the article, you are left with no questions unanswered. Here is a link to the news article.
